Productive day!

Well, today has been surprisingly productive. It's amazing what you can get done when you actually get enough sleep. I have been EXHAUSTED for the last few days. Went to bed around 11 last night, and didn't get up until 9 or 9:30 this morning! I must have needed it. :-)

Anyhoo...I lazed around on the couch for a few hours, then decided to get up and going. Re-posted an ad on craigslist for my brother, then went and got in the shower. I was thinking about heading up to his place for his yard sale to see if there was anything we might need. Well, the more I thought about it...the more it didn't make sense. I would probably end up buying things we didn't really need, and that we don't really have room for. So I decided against it. I called and let him know what I was planning on doing though.

When I decided that I wasn't going to make the hike up there, I went up to Lowe's to buy some flowers for my front flower beds and something to plant under the pine tree in the front yard. About 30 minutes and $56 later, I had stuff loaded in the back of my Jeep, and I was on my way home! I didn't get everything I wanted because I couldn't find it all, but here's what I got...

2 Peppermint Hydrangea's. These are planted in the far north part of the flower bed where it bows out away from the house a little bit.

Close up of the flowers on the Peppermint Hydrangea's.

These can actually have blue or pink stripes 'painted' in the center of the white flowers depending on the pH of the soil. Maybe next year I'll play around with that a little bit to see what happens! I would love to get the soil balanced enough to have them come out purple.

I also got some Impatients. I've always loved these little flowers. Although, they were MUCH easier to handle the last time I dealt with them. They used to come in individual 'pods', but now, you get 3 stems per 'pod' so they all have to be broken apart. Well, I bought 10 'pods' of Impatients to spread across the two beds. I can't remember exactly what breed they are, but they are dark pink...almost red on the outside edges, with a white stripe down the middle! Check em out!

And a close up of the flowers!

I'm very excited to FINALLY have some flowers planted. I didn't get my vegetable garden this year because the back yard has been on hiatus pretty much since we moved into the house. Next year though for sure! I'm going to have all kinds of stuff growing!

P.S. I also got some Hosta's to plant under the pine tree in the front yard...but I didn't take any pictures lol

I would also like to say Happy Father's Day to all new dads, old dads, and soon-to-be dads!

Fun with fishes...and flowers!!!

So last night was our monthly girls night. We talked about boys, interesting driving stories (that's a whole post in itself...), former pets, and the fact that Jaibee's cat sheds enough to cover another whole cat in a matter of about 5 minutes. We had some good food, good talks, and good drinks!

One of the stories that came up when we were talking about pets, was my previous stint with fish. Probably about 5 or 6 years ago, I was living in an apartment in Clarkston with my brother and my (now...obviously...) ex boyfriend. We had a partial wall between the living room and the kitchen, where we had 2-10 gallon tanks set up. One was my brother's, the other was mine. I had a few goldfish, a few snails, a couple of mollies, and some tetras. They were entertainment for HOURS for the 2 cats. Well, I got down to one death-proof goldfish, 2 mollies, and a couple of snails. A bout of ich took out a few of them at once. The goldfish was the 'fancy' kind...with the pretty double tail, and the mollies were dalmatian mollies...black and white spotted. Unfortunately, I can't seem to locate the disc that has all of the old fish pictures on it so you all will have to just use your imagination!

Well, when I bought the goldfish, I actually bought 3 of them. One died before moving into the apartment, and another died shortly after. I think moving was just too much stress for the poor guy! Anyways...I'm down to one goldfish, 2 mollies (male and female), and a couple of snails. One day I got up and noticed that the female mollie was quite a bit more 'plump' than normal. Hmm. Well, the within the next few days after that, she was less 'plump', and I noticed these little bitty things in the tank! She had babies!!! About 30 of the little suckers. The goldfish apparently thought they were pretty tasty, and it ate most of them. I think the rest were eaten by the mom and dad mollies. Well, this cycle happened again, only this time...I bought a breeders net. I was able to get about 25 of the babies from the second batch into the breeders net, and out of reach of the monstrous, death-proof goldfish. It all worked for about a week. By that time, the baby mollies were probably about 1/2" long. The goldfish managed to chew a hole in the netting, and the babies escaped. Some got eaten...some survived. One actually managed to grow to about an inch in length...almost full size! Well, after this whole fun event, I came home to a belly-up goldfish...apparently the babies were too much competition for it. **giggle** I really wouldn't mind getting more mollies eventually. They're cool little fishies!!!

Ok, now on to the flowers. A little while back, I got some lilies from a lady that I work with. She brought them in for a few of us because they were getting 'out of control' at her house. I LOVE lilies...so I put them in the front flower beds. That was about 6 weeks ago I think. There were some full on plants, some sprouts, and a few bulbs. I tossed all of them in their own little holes, covered them, and gave them a good drink! They're not doing to shabby! No blooms yet, but there are buds on a few of them. Check it out!

The larger of the 2 flower beds...

The 'big boy'...(look at all those buds!!!)

The 'big boy's' little brother...

This one started as just a bulb! How cute! LOL

And this is my new sunflower garden in the back yard. There are 16 sprouts, and 2 that I would still consider 'seedlings'...can't wait for these bad boys to grow!

And with that...I'm going to bed. It's late, and I get to sleep in tomorrow!!! YAY!!! I've been so stinking tired the last few days, it's not even funny!

Good night blog world.

New stuff...Again

So, I was out and about searching for a new blog layout, and I found this one! I like it. A little funky, a little fancy...and a little sophisticated! I might end up changing it again later, but we'll see. Right now, I'm happy with it.

I was also perusing other blogs tonight. Did some click through action and came across this (it's already on 'my blog list' too). These ladies have it right. Babies, are babies. Plain and simple!!!

Anyways...I love my Jeep. I'm very glad I got it. :-) Got groceries with it tonight too...it was so nice!!! Ahhh, the simple things...

Well, I need to get to bed now. Goodnight blog world

The End of an Era...

Well, over the last month, I have gotten married (my drivers license number now starts with a 'B' **giggle**), cut my hair, and now it's time for me to say good-bye to the great Green Machine, and welcome my new "mom-mobile"! No, there are no kiddies on the way yet...sheesh...we're just getting prepared! lol

The Green Machine had a decent life. No, I didn't take care of her as well as I could have, but she always got me where I needed to go...sometimes reluctantly, but got me there nonetheless. I had her for a little over 8 years and that's the longest I have ever had a vehicle to date. Second longest would be the gray Cavalier station wagon I believe...but that and my wonderful Sonoma are close in time. I totaled the Sonoma pretty close to 15 months to the day of signing the papers and never really felt right about driving the Green Machine after that. I always wanted my truck back. It was so much fun!!! But, the Green Machine grew on me. She was fun to drive, and rarely fought back when I asked her to "go". Sometimes she would "go" faster than I even thought she could!!! She got me safely to Alabama a couple of times, to Cedar Point MULTIPLE times, even to Chicago once or twice. When I handed the keys over on Monday, she had 116,310 miles of experience on the road! A few dents and dings here and there, some stains, and a prissiness about coming out of park as of late. I tried to remedy that prior to trading her in, but she resisted. I'll miss you Green Machine! You were a good car...

The reigns have been passed on rather smoothly to a new mode of transportation. It's bigger, it's badder...it's four wheel drive!!! :-) I love this thing. I haven't come up with a nickname yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. This thing is...FUN!!! I really like it, and even though it has a few more miles than the Green Machine had, I'm ok with that. I fought myself about that simple fact for a day and then realized that it wasn't as big of a deal as I was making it out to be. So, here it is! Momma's new toy!!!

Yes...it is mine! Muahahahaaaa Well...there are 2 names on the title just because the insurance was in his name, and my drivers license hadn't been changed yet, and that's how the title for the Green Machine read. I can change it though. :-D I'm just a little worried about the gas price. Bigger tank, less miles...oh well...I and our children, when we have them, will be safe. That's all that matters!
